Melinda Wright shared with WSB-TV the last conversation she had with her daughter, Alyssa Wright.
The mother and daughter laughed about upcoming plans. Before saying goodbye to her mother, Alyssa informed her mother that she was going over her boyfriend’s home, Elijah Ramoutar.
We were sitting on the bed, laughing, joking about things that were starting to look up for us. She said, “Bye. I love you. I’ll be back.”‘
Melinda had no problem with her going over her boyfriend’s family’s home because he was always a respectful young man.
She had no idea that she would be saying goodbye to her daughter for the last time.
Newton County deputies were called to the Ramoutar home on Tuesday night and found Wright’s body. It’s being reported that the cause of death was strangulation.
The suspect, Ramoutar, was arrested and taken into custody on the scene. He is in the Newton County Jail, online records show.
Wright and Ramoutar began dating in January. The high school sweethearts attended prom together in April and graduated in May, according to WSB-TV.
Wright had been studying for the medical field, and Ramoutar was planning to join the Air Force, the report said.
In tears, Melinda Wright said the following:
‘Never seen this coming. Ever. I mean, he was always with us at family functions. He was… whatever she needed, he would do.’
‘I don’t wish no harm to him. But… I’m angry. Why? I want justice for my baby.’
