For years, Gina and Pat Neely were adored by fans around the world. With their cooking show Down Home With the Neelys, the pair shared their recipes and cooking skills with fans and, on camera, their chemistry seemed undeniable. As high school sweethearts, it seemed like the two would be together forever. But behind closed doors, their relationship was anything but favorable. In fact, the relationship was apparently so bad, Gina Neely walked away and never looked back – literally. Now, she’s sharing details about the day she walked out. She’s admitted she hasn’t even spoken to him since she left – four years ago.
Life Outside Of The Kitchen:
During the interview, Gina recalled walking out with nothing, reports People magazine. “I remember leaving with my purse and my duffle bag, and I was out of there,” Gina, 52, said. When asked how Pat is, he admitted she’s unsure how she’s doing because she hasn’t spoken to him. She said, “I haven’t spoken to Pat in four years.” Despite the ugly split, she wishes him well. “I don’t wish him any harm, but he’s never reached out to me… I guess he’s well? Our girls are older so we’re not really co-parenting or anything,”
She also revealed details about their show. Apparently, television wasn’t something she signed up for. She admitted she and Pat were on bad terms prior to landing their cooking show. In fact, she claims the show actually came out of nowhere. Once Pat inked a deal with the cooking network, she found herself stuck. “I never wanted to be a TV chef. I was a branch manager at a bank. I was going to divorce Pat prior to the show. And then all of a sudden the train jumped on the track and I had to hold on for my life.”
She continued, “It’s part of my life I never seemed to move past. I never aspired to be a chef. My ex and I worked together at a family restaurant BBQ business. I thought it would be one show, we’d go back to our regular lives. Who knew it would be the highest-rated show on Food Network?”
Life After Divorce:
Although Gina Neely is back on the dating market after being married more than 20 years, it doesn’t look like she’s ready to give up on love. According to People magazine, Gina is open to love and marriage again. During an interview with the publication, she admitted she’s optimistic about finding love again. “I want to find love again, love being in love,” Neely tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, on newsstands Friday. “I want to get married again. I love being married. I’m not against marriage and I’m not against love.”
Now Gina is appearing “Having someone facilitate that for me was a blessing in and of itself because it took the work off of me and put it on someone else,” Neely said. “It was kind of Godsend, in the way that it took me out of my box. Sometimes when we feel uncomfortable, that’s when we get the best results.”
