Gloria Govan’s Arrest Opens The Door For Matt Barnes To Seek Full Custody Of Kids

Posted On : September 5, 2018

Last week, Gloria Govan’s arrest surprised fans everywhere. For those who missed it, on Friday, August 31, the Basketball Wives star was arrested and charged with felony child endangerment following a heated altercation with her ex-husband, former NBA star Matt Barnes. Now, he is making a powerful statement with his latest legal move and its quite clear: he’s not about to play when it comes to the kids.

Although their confrontation was just Friday, he’s not wasting any time filing the appropriate legal documents to gain custody of their children.

Firing Back:

After clashing last week, Matt and Gloria arrived in court this morning to begin their heated custody battle. It has been reported that Matt has filed for a restraining order against Gloria and he’s also seeking full custody of the children. Based on what happened Friday, Matt is seeking an emergency motion for full physical and legal custody, so he can quickly strip Gloria of their current custody arrangement.

He’s reportedly arguing that Gloria is a danger to their children, according to The Blast. However, he isn’t stopping at full custody. He’s working to make it much harder for Gloria to even see their children.

He wants the former “Basketball Wives” star given a no-contact order but is requesting that if she gets visitation, it’s with a court-appointed monitor. The documents ask the court to order her to stay 100 yards away from him, the kids, and the kids’ school.

Gloria is posing a different argument and she’s reportedly not going down without fighting for her children. Insiders have revealed the reality star has lawyered up, hiring highly respected attorney Mark Gross, to defend her. She’s also insisting her arrest was “unwarranted.”

Gloria’s Rage:

The latest news follows Gloria and Matt’s run-in at their children’s school last Friday. Based on their custody agreement, Matt had legal rights to pick up their twin boys from school, but Gloria arrived at the school early to pick the children up. Needless to say, that led to an altercation that quickly escalated.

When Matt arrived at the school, he instructed his sons to get out of their mother’s car and into his. When the children did so without complaining, this reportedly sent Gloria into a rage, according to Page Six. However, things didn’t stop at the school. When Matt left with the children, Gloria allegedly “drove after Matt’s car and blocked him in,” which led to the 911 call.

When police officers arrived, Matt furnished legal documentation of the custody agreement, which showed Gloria had no right to pick the children up that day. As a result of the documentation and her actions, Gloria was arrested and charged with felony child endangerment. After being released from jail on a $100,000 bond the following day, she quickly took to social media to clear her name.

Instagram Clap Back:

Although many media outlets, social media users, and Basketball Wives viewers have quickly taken a judgmental stance, Gloria wasn’t havin’ it. She quickly fired back at the critics.

On Saturday, September 1, she posted an image of a prayer and wrote, “Let me tell y’all something… there isn’t a person on this earth that isn’t struggling with something! I don’t care how much money, success, or followers anyone has. We all have problems. You’re not alone. Trust me. Don’t let peoples filtered pictures fool you. God has equipped you, HE has prepared you for everyday. Each day is ordered by him. You’re going to be ok!!! You will get through this. Trust in your purpose and don’t be afraid to ask for help. A prayer for all of us.”

Not for the foollishness, Gloria disabled the comments on this particular post.

This will likely be an ongoing battle, but hopefully Gloria and Matt reach some type of agreement for the sake of their children. Since the boys are only nine they have a long way to go with co-parenting.
