A pair of New York food bloggers excitedly announced their engagement on Instagram.
But along with the congratulations, the couple also faced a storm criticizm over the size of the bride-to-be’s ring.
Jen Phanomrat, of the popular YouTube channel Just Eat Life, shared the happy news of her engagement to Leo Samanamud, on Instagram saying: ‘9 years later, I said YES to my best friend!’
‘It just seems like he went into the store like “show the smallest ring ever made”,’ one said. ‘I understand simplicity, but this is beyond my understanding why anyone would buy something that small.’
Jen Loved The Ring
Jen later told Yahoo Lifestyle that she was delighted with the simple band, and it was exactly what she would have chosen for herself.
‘He knew exactly what type of ring I’d love,’ she said. ‘A delicate, hammered gold ring with a tiny pearl.
‘I don’t usually wear any jewelry, but when I do, it’s simple and minimal.’
However, comments included, ‘It must suck to wait 9 years for a ring that look like that.’
It forced the blogger to turn off the comments on her Instagram post.
Jen Was Surprised By The Female Reaction
Jen added that she was shocked that so many of the people leaving negative comments on her announcement were other women.
‘I was shocked to see so many females wasting their time replying to each other to dampen our happy moment,’ she said.
She said she was hurt to see a meme created from their photo and shared on Instagram with the caption: ‘Ladies, would you accept the ring and say yes?’
