It’s hard to deny that Idris Elba and his fiancée, Sabrina Dhowre make a cute couple. The British actor who once said that he would never marry again seems to be head over heels in love.
Idris Loves Showing Off His Bride-To-Be Sabrina Dhowre:
On Sunday, Edward Enniful, the British Vogue editor-in-chief, hosted a tea to honor Oprah Winfrey as she is starring in the new Ava DuVernay film Wrinkle In Time. Oprah called the tea one of her favorite events in London as she spent the evening with some “dashing Brits”. The guest list included actor Chiwetel Ejiofor from 12 Years A Slave as well as Idris Elba. Coincidentally, Sunday also happened to be Mother’s Day in London so not only did Idris bring his fiancée Sabrina Dhowre but he brought his mother, Eve Elba, to the event as well. On his Instagram page, Idris shared a photo of his mother, Oprah, and his bride-to-be as he captioned the photo stating that all three women mean the world to him. How sweet! Check out the heartfelt message that Idris penned about the women in his life below:
When International women’s day is extended and rolls into Mother’s Day!! @oprah made my Mum’s cheeks blush! she was smiling so much @sabrinadhowre Three women that mean the world to me. #awrinkleintime For girls and boys!! everywhere @ava, he wrote.
Can you imagine the perks of dating Idris Elba? Not only do you get to be in the arms of a gorgeous man every night but you get to hang out with famous people like Oprah, Ava DuVernay, and even royalty, Back in December, Idris introduced Sabrina to Prince Charles. The couple attended the One Million Young Dinner at Buckingham Palace where the former Miss Vancouver shook hands with Prince Charles. The event is an initiative by the Prince’s Trust, a charity formed by the Prince of Wales in 1976 to support at-risk 13-30 year-olds who are unemployed, struggling in school or homeless. One of those helped by the charity was the British actor Idris Elba who gave a speech detailing how his life changed with the support he got from the charity.
A Change Of Heart:
Idris Elba once revealed that he would never get married again. In speaking with Essence magazine in July of 2017, Elba seemed to be focused on his passion of directing and putting love on the back burner. Sharing that he had been there and done that, Elba boldly stated that marriage wasn’t for him. The British actor was married to makeup artist Hanne Norgaard from 1999 to 2003 and lawyer Sonya Hamlin for six months in 2006.
Am I ever gonna get remarried? I don’t think so. Yeah, I don’t think so, Idris Elba said to Essence. Marriage is an institution of sorts. And I’ve done it. It’s not for everybody. It’s not my life’s calling.
Well, it appears that love changed Elba’s mind as he proposed to his girlfriend, Sabrina Dhowre in front of a packed audience. In Dalston, London, at the screening of his directorial debut of the movie, Yardie, Elba got down on one knee and asked for Dhowre’s hand in marriage. According to The Daily Mail, she excitedly said yes as the crowd cheered. Rio Cinema and others present at the screening took to Twitter to congratulate the couple.
Idris met Sabrina, a 29-year-old model of Somali descent who won the Miss Vancouver pageant in 2014, while filming the movie, The Mountain Between Us. Elba spoke with PEOPLE magazine about falling in love while making a movie about falling in love. Idris Elba keeps his love life pretty private. So, when the actor showed up with a beautiful woman on the read carpet, people took notice. Elba and Dhowre stepped out together at the film’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was her first time on a red carpet and Elba as well as Dhowre were excited.
Elba and Dhowre have been dating for less than a year. Elba has had a rocky relationship history. Maybe the third time is the charm.
