Matt Barnes Finally Tells What Really Happened When He Caught Wife With His Teammate

Posted On : May 29, 2018

Most of us know the story behind retired NBA player, Matt Barnes, and his ex-wife/former “Basketball Wives” star, Gloria Govan…or so we thought. Up until now, the story about Matt beating the hell out his former NBA teammate, Derek Fisher, after catching him at his home with his then wife, Gloria, has pretty much been the gist of it. Well, in a new interview on Angela Yee’s Lip Service, Matt told the details BEHIND the details that we thought we knew. Let’s just say, Gloria probably won’t be too fond of his brutally honest revelations.

Now that Gloria is engaged to her ex-husband’s former teammate, Derek Fisher, everywhere Matt goes, people are questioning him about it and understandably so, given their violent history. So instead of running away from the current pressure, Matt faced it head on in his interview. Check out the many things he revealed…

On what really happened the night he caught Fisher and Govan together at his house- the home he was paying all of the bills for:

“So I was playing in Memphis at that time, so I had went back to my condo in L.A. because I had training camp in Santa Barbara. [But] Kanye rapped [in a prior song] that I went 90 miles from Santa Barbara, but I was already in L.A. … but both of my cars were in Memphis. So when my son called me and is like, ‘Yo dad, your friend Derek is over here.’ And I call my other son and he says, ‘Mommy’s friend Derek, is over here,’ I’m like ‘this ni&&a’s (Derek Fisher) trippin.’

So, I call my homeboy and I knew he had the Bentley downstairs, but I couldn’t find the keys…I rummaged for the keys…it took me 30 minutes to find the keys. [Then] I go down there and the Bentley’s on a flat. This is before [there was] Uber or anything. So I’m like ‘Fu*k this, I’m making this car work.’

So I drove a Bentley like 3 blocks to the gas station, pump the tire up, with Tupac blastin’ the whole time, and then drove over there. So [Derek] really didn’t stand a chance. …I was determined to get some air in that tire…and I did.”

Matt then said he called fellow NBA’er, Gilbert Arenas, and told him, “Just be standing by with bail money in case this sh*t don’t go right.” When asked if he thought about the fact that he could’ve ended up on the news that night Matt replied:

“I didn’t care. Like…if you’re thinking that you can be in a house that I pay for, wth my kids not tell me bro…I don’t give a f**k what happens. … Like I said it was a crazy situation, there were a lot of people there, luckily…I wish they would’ve filmed it ’cause it was funny as f**k. […] They’re very lucky like 3 or 4 people grabbed me off of him every single time I got him, or it would’ve been some real trouble.”

Contrary to popular belief, Matt left Gloria, but here are his thoughts on whether or not their tumultuous split makes him weary about dating:

“No disrespect to my ex, but I think I ran out of love at the end (of the marriage) and I stayed longer than I should have for the kids. Like, my kids are my life. I had a fu**ed up childhood- parents were on drugs, [physical] abuse and everything. So I…promised myself that if I was ever fortunate enough to have kids, I was gon’ be the best dad ever. … That’s why it was so hard for me to leave her, because I felt like I was giving up on my kids. …But I didn’t, I just found a happy place.

On how he explained fight with Fisher to his and Gloria’s 9 year old twin sons:

“I’m very upfront with the boys…from the beginning. I told them why I fought him and I really broke it down to ’em you know- Him [Fisher] and daddy were friends, mommy and daddy were married [and I said] you don’t do that to your brother, you wouldn’t do that to your cousins, you don’t do that to your friends. Without doggin’ either of them (Gloria and Derek), but explaining to them that the situation wasn’t right, but sometimes things happen.”

His thoughts on Gloria banning him from her upcoming wedding:

“Like I wanna fu**ing come to your wedding. … I think you forgot that I left you. … The reason I squashed the whole thing with Derek is because my kids like him and to me it’s all about my kids being happy…. But [me] wanting to come to a wedding? C’mon man what are you talking about?”

Well, at least their successfully co-parenting. Matt had a whole lot more to say, in the video up top.
