Mother’s Worst Fear Is Confirmed When Her Daughter’s Ex-Boyfriend Posted A Confession On FB

Aniya Mack and her mother, Loretta Bailey, were incredibly close. Despite the fact that Aniya Mack lived in a different state, she spoke to her mother often by phone. Last year, Aniya drove from Michigan to Louisiana to surprise her mother for her birthday. It took Aniya 16 hours to get to Louisiana but it was nothing because she loved her mother. It was a memorable birthday for Bailey as she had an exciting time with her daughter. What she didn’t know is that her birthday would be the last time she saw her daughter alive.

A Facebook Status Causes A Family To Worry About Their Loved One:

Last year for her birthday, Louisiana woman Loretta Bailey remembered spending time with her daughter, Aniya Mack. Now, a year later, Bailey spent her birthday weekend worrying about her daughter. According to MLive, family members contacted Bailey as they were worried about Aniya. Aniya reportedly didn’t show up for work and she also was not in contact with anyone. Bailey knew that it was unlike her daughter not to show up for work. Concerned for her daughter’s safety, Bailey contacted her daughter’s ex-boyfriend,  Donnovan Lewis, but he claimed that he hadn’t heard from Aniya. However, his Facebook status had family members of Aniya Mack concerned for her safety.

Donnovan Lewis allegedly created a Facebook status from Aniya’s phone where he seemed to be confessing for his wrong doings. The post concerned many of his loved ones, including the family member of Aniya.

Lewis is a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and played on the Kalamazoo Valley Community College men’s basketball team for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years. An apology was posted around 4 a.m. Thursday, which said the following:

I apologize to everyone who looked up to me and loved me.

Family members of Aniya became worried and took to Facebook to express their concerns. At the time of Donny’s post, family members still hadn’t heard from Aniya as they planned to travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan. According to family members, Aniya had been missing since Sunday, June 24th.

Family’s Worst Fears Are Confirmed When Aniya’s Body Was Found:

Aniya Mack was last seen by her family and friends on Sunday, June 24. A missing person report was received by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 28. Initially, when Aniya’s mother, Loretta Bailey asked her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Donnovan Lewis, had he seen her, Lewis alleged that he hadn’t saw her. Sadly, he was lying. At about 3 a.m., officers discovered Lewis near Aniya Mack’s home. Lewis admitted to killing Aniya Mack, 24, while speaking to detectives, a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety detective told Santoni during a court hearing Friday.

While a motive has not been established, the MLive reports that Lewis admitted to striking Mack in the face, knocking her unconscious. He then allegedly retrieved a knife from the kitchen and slit her throat, the detective said. Officers found evidence of a struggle and blood at the apartment where police say Mack was killed, the detective said in court. Lewis faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted of murder. A former co-worker of Lewis spoke with MLive as she stated that she was surprised to learn that he committed murder. In shock, the former co-worker said this is not the Donnovon Lewis she knows.

The Donnovan that I know is very relaxed and funny and helpful and driven. He has a lot of goals, said the woman who did not want to be identified. He really loves being active. He was a great person to be around and it’s horrifying what has happened both for the victim and for Donnovan. He was a young man with a lot of things going for him.

Aniya Mack also had a lot of things going for her. Family members of Aniya Mack shared that she was a kind soul who loved to volunteer. Mack had ambitions to work with autistic children and was passionate about mental health awareness. She attended Western Michigan University for some time, where she participated in choir and dance.

These were two young people with really big futures ahead of them and it’s a tragedy for both people.
