Destinee Virgin ran frantically from car to car pulling on door handles in a failed attempt to escape her killer. She was running for her life and screaming for help when her attacker caught up with her. In front of witnesses, Virgin was gunned down by someone she once loved.
Destinee Virgin Was Allegedly In A Toxic Relationship With Her Former Boyfriend:
Before she was tragically killed, Destinee Virgin’s mother tried to warn her daughter about dating her former boyfriend, Markel Ervin. Virgin’s mother described their relationship as “toxic” and she wanted her daughter to stay far away from him. According to the Ledger-Enquirer, Virgin’s mother once stated in a courtroom that Ervin was physically abusive towards Virgin.
This is not the first time he has hit my child, she testified, telling Ervin: You held her against her will and beat up on her.
At that time, Ervin was facing kidnapping charges for allegedly kidnapping Virgin and holding her against her will. On April 25th, Virgin reportedly went to dinner with Ervin and she was supposed to be home by 9:30 p.m. However, when she failed to come home, her mother became worried. Her mother reportedly tried to call her daughter’s cell phone, but, she got no answer. When 5:00 a.m. arrived and Virgin was still not home, her mother notified the police. After searching for Virgin for 2 days, on April 27th, police officers were able to track her cell phone to a tower which led them to Ervin’s aunt’s home.
The Ledger-Enquirer, alleged that officers found Virgin with a black eye and scratches on her face. She claimed that she was held against her will by Ervin. Interestingly enough, court documents stated that Virgin had once ran away from home and lived with Ervin along with Ervin’s mother. In court, both Ervin’s mother and aunt testified that Virgin told them that her mother blacked her eye. Virgin’s mother stated that the comments from the women were made to keep Ervin out of jail. The 17 year-old was facing charges of kidnapping and false imprisonment charges but was free on bond. Now, he is facing charges of murder.

Destinee Virgin Was Gunned Down By The Same Man Who Kidnapped Her Months Before:
Just months before she was killed, Destinee Virgin was reportedly kidnapped by her former boyfriend, Markel Ervin. In broad daylight in Columbus, Georgia, Virgin was allegedly shot and killed in front of witnesses. The incident occurred on Saturday, September 22, 2018 around 7 PM. Details are still developing as witnesses reported that Destinee Virgin ran frantically from car to car pulling on door handles in a failed attempt to escape her killer. Motorists watched as Virgin fled from her Nissan Maxima with Ervin on her heels. Sadly, Ervin caught up to her and gunned her down, firing multiple shots with a 9 mm pistol before he returned to her Nissan and sped away. Virgin was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at an area hospital. It’s unclear what led up to the attack but Ervin and Virgin had a volatile relationship.
With Virgin’s credit card in his pocket, police officers were able to apprehend Ervin. He was charged with murder for Virgin’s fatal shooting Saturday, but he also faces accusations from the April 25 incident in which he allegedly held her against her will, prompting charges of kidnapping and false imprisonment.
There are many people who believe that the system failed Destinee Virgin. Many believe that if Ervin had been locked up, Virgin would still be alive today.
