CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA — While her girls trip started as planned, it took a sharp turn after a few days — with a heck of a surprise ending.
Winter Castro-Porter has been married for three years now and hasn’t spent much time apart from her other half, Aaron Porter — until now.
HERE’S THE BACKGROUND
Winter loves Aaron more than anything and was supposed to be flying out on a week-long getaway, alone.
However, she constantly felt like something wasn’t right about this particular trip. Before the trip, she told Aaron multiple times that she wasn’t feeling it.
Yet, she went along with it anyway.
When Love Was Real caught up with Winter to get details regarding the events that unfolded. During the brief interview, Winter mentions she had planned communication with her friends as follows.
“I preplanned to have 7 of my closest friends call and check up on him while I was away, but also give him a personal message ‘from me to him’ [each day]…So everyday, one of my friends did that for 7 days.”
Sounds like a romantic gesture, right?
So, her seven friends — Sade, Sharmoen, Rachel, Tiffany (Sister), Zaire, Shaunt’e, and Tiara — delivered her messages as promised.
Even on Day 4, in a message delivered by her sister, Winter was REALLY missing her husband. The message read as follows:
I love you so much. I want to let u know that today is Hump day, so it’s only right I personally had the one closest to me give u this message.
When I get back, I’m taking it down, my King Mandingo, Sexual Warrior!! Just wait and see what this kitty [kat] has to offer Lol… I know ur embarrassed … Deal with it!”
Here are her messages from that day.
Nevertheless, Winter didn’t realize her trip was about to take a sharp turn.
MARIA’s NO-GOOD A**
While on her getaway with family, it turned into something completely different than expected.
After arriving, her cruise took her to Grenada, roughly 524 miles southeast from Carnival’s initial port.
Winter told When Love Was Real that, days after they were away on the cruise, Hurricane Maria was on its way to Puerto Rico — her return port.
Luckily, at the time when Maria hit, they weren’t near the island. Instead, according to Winter, her ship was in transit to Antigua — roughly 300 miles southeast of Puerto Rico.
However, once they got word that Maria had devastated the Caribbean island, they had to jet.
The cruise cut its Antigua trip short and had to be expedited back to Puerto Rico — “fast as hell,” says Winter — in order to get residents in touch with lost family members.
She says those who couldn’t contact family and friends were also freaking out due to reports of death.
Winter states as follows.
“While there, there was an emergency evacuation of 70,000 people, and threats that the dam was going to break, so I was stressed out.”
Winter states that she was really supposed to fly out from Puerto Rico the following day. However, the ship’s crew instructed passengers that only Puerto Rican residents could disembark the ship.
So contrary to her plans, Winter had to set sail back to Miami via the ship — which took them three days.
She says her sister was able to secure an airline ticket for her, from Miami to Charlotte.
GRATEFUL TO BE BACK WITH HUBBY
After she arrived back in North Carolina, Aaron picked her up from the airport.
As expected, she was ecstatic to see him. And as you know from her aforementioned texts, it was about to go DOWN!
However, Winter was hit with an “unexpected romance,” as she mentions via Instagram.
Once she arrived home, she found that Aaron had a surprise waiting.
Winter told When Love Was Real as follows.
“When I walked in, I saw the ‘Welcome Home’ set up with sunflowers, my fave, leading from the door to the table — with an iPhone 8 Plus, a pair of jeans, and a bouquet of flowers with a card…I love him to death and he will be getting the kitty kat tonight!”

Winter elaborates that, after some time, Aaron reminded her of the importance of listening to and trusting her instincts.
A MESSAGE FROM WINTER
All in all, as the interview wrapped up, she wanted to encourage other couples with the following words.
“Don’t know if this matters, but I believe people should know this about us. We never disrespect each other…EVER! No name calling when we’re happy or mad. Once that threshold is crossed, it’s never the same. We believe that the key is love, respect, trust, commitment, communication, FUN, and most importantly KEEPING GOD IN THE CENTER. We learn from couples who’s been married for decades by asking them questions.”
“Oh, and we definitely pray together,” Winter adds.
“When we’re good and when we’re trying to solve a disagreement with each other and don’t know who’s right or wrong [they pray].”
Winter also notes that they never go to sleep angry with each other. Likewise, they never leave the house without letting each other know where they’re going.
“And we NEVER EVER EVER leave each other without a kiss or hang up without saying ‘I love u’,” says Winter.
It’s awesome to find genuine, everyday love, right? Overall, we’d love to know your thoughts about this story. If you have any comments, you can share them via our Facebook page.
